Gingerenone A is a bioactive phenolic compound found in the food composition Gingered Plum. It has been shown to have minimal toxicity and significant cytotoxicity against HL-60 cells. Gingerenone A has also been shown to inhibit the uptake of glucose into adipose cells and to downregulate the activation of inflammatory pathways, such as NF-κB, induced by cytokines such as TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6. In addition, it has been shown to significantly inhibit insulin stimulated glucose uptake and intracellular Ca2+ levels in both adipocytes and leishmania promastigotes. Gingerenone A is an inhibitor of fatty acid synthase (FAS) that may be useful for the treatment of autoimmune diseases.
