Gomisin M1 also inhibits cancer cell growth by inhibiting the synthesis of DNA, RNA, and proteins. Gomisin M1 is a metabolite of gomisin A, which is found in the schisandra fruit. Gomisin A contains a hydroxyl group with an aryl halide at its top and bottom positions on the phenyl ring. The molecule also contains an α-ring and a β-ring that are both unsaturated, as well as an oxygenated group at position 3 on the biphenyl ring.
