Descrição:Glyceryl stearate is a fatty acid that belongs to the group of glycol esters. It is a light-sensitive substance and is used in chemiluminescence methods to detect the presence of bacteria. Glyceryl stearate has been shown to inhibit leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) production in chronic oral toxicity studies on rats. This compound also can be used as a skin moisturizer, an ingredient for skin cells, and as a monoclonal antibody carrier protein. The active form of glyceryl stearate is metabolized by hydrolysis of the ester bond or oxidation by cytochrome P450 enzymes. Glyceryl stearate may also have anti-inflammatory properties due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis.
