Gabapentin related compound B is a hydrolysing enzyme that is immobilized on a support by means of alkalization. This method allows the enzyme to be used in wastewater treatment and in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals. The immobilization process was performed on polystyrene beads with malonic acid as the linking agent, which was then grafted onto the surface of the beads. The immobilized enzyme can be used for chemical transformations such as hydrogenation or recombination reactions. Chemoenzymatic reactions were also investigated as an alternative method for producing chemical structures with high purity and selectivity. In this process, enzymes are used to catalyse chemical reactions without any external reducing agent or cofactor, and without any need for expensive equipment.
