Griffonilide is a plant-derived natural product that has been shown to have cytotoxic, anti-inflammatory, and immunosuppressive properties. Griffonilide is a mixture of compounds that are extracted from the culture supernatant of a fungus called Griffonia simplicifolia. It has been shown to have cytotoxic effects on cancer cells and hyperproliferative diseases such as psoriasis. Griffonilide also inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to fatty acids in their cell membranes. The anti-bacterial activity of griffonilide is not affected by fatty acids or by eluting with water, but is inhibited by elution with protocatechuic acid.
