This allows it to be used as a contrast agent in x-ray computed tomography (CT) of the human body. The molecule can also be used to study the uptake of H-Gln-OtBu.HCl by tumour cells, which are more acidic than normal cells due to their higher glycolytic rate, and the enhancement of its signal by amide bonds on proteins.
