Descrição:Ganoderol A is a natural compound that inhibits the synthesis of cholesterol. It is isolated from the rhizome of Gastrodia elata, a Chinese medicinal herb. This compound binds to the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase, which catalyzes the rate-limiting step in cholesterol synthesis. Ganoderol A has been shown to inhibit cholesterol synthesis in vitro with IC50 values at 6.8 µM. It has also been found to have antimicrobial effects against Gram-positive bacteria and fungi. The chemical structure of ganoderol A is lanostane, which belongs to the class of chemical substances known as sesquiterpenoids.
