Ganoderic acid D is a natural product that is a potent inhibitor of the production of TNF-α and epidermal growth factor. It has been shown to inhibit the function of mitochondrial membrane potential and fatty acid synthesis, as well as enzyme activity in the reaction solution. Ganoderic acid D has also been shown to be an effective inhibitor of group P2 polymerase activity, which is responsible for DNA replication. This compound was extracted from Ganoderma lucidum using subcritical water extraction and purified with polymerase chain reaction (PCR) treatment before being subjected to trypsin treatment and receptor binding studies. The results showed that this compound had significant inhibitory effects on lacrimal gland cells, leading to potential use in the diagnosis or treatment of lacrimal gland disorders.
