6-Amino-2-chloro-3-methylbenzoic acid is an antitumor agent that inhibits tumor cell growth by inhibiting the production of DNA and RNA. It has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of thiophene, a precursor in the synthesis of nucleic acids. 6-Amino-2-chloro-3-methylbenzoic acid has been shown to inhibit the growth of tumor cells in vitro and in vivo. This drug also inhibits 4-chloro-5-(methylnitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1,3,5 triazine (NNK), which is a well known carcinogen that binds to DNA and causes mutations. 6 amino 2 chloro 3 methyl benzoic acid is a competitive inhibitor of NNK binding to DNA and thus prevents cancerous mutations from occurring.
