Descrição:2-(Hydroxymethyl)benzimidazole is a hydroxylated analog of benzimidazole. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in cell culture, as well as human syncytial virus infection. 2-Hydroxymethylbenzimidazole also inhibits the activity of several enzymes, such as tetranuclear myocardin and hydrogen bond formation with copper (II). The chemical structure of 2-hydroxymethylbenzimidazole is a chelate ring with two coordinating atoms (copper, II) that are bound to each other by two hydrogen bonds. This coordination geometry is sensitive to changes in pH, which may affect the biological properties of this compound.
