It has been shown to be an efficient supramolecular photoactive material for the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and singlet molecular oxygen (1O2) in photophysical systems. 3-Hexadecylthiophene has also been used as a polymer concentration modifier for polymers such as polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, and poly(vinyl chloride). The optical properties of 3-hexadecylthiophene are thermally stable and it has a high thermal stability. 3-Hexadecylthiophene is soluble in organic solvents and can be synthesized from linolenic acid by thermal ring opening polymerization.
