3-Hydroxypicolinonitrile-2-carbonitrile is a chemical compound with antibiotic properties. It is a synthetic antibiotic that is used for the treatment of bacterial infections. 3-Hydroxypicolinonitrile-2-carbonitrile inhibits bacterial growth by binding to DNA, preventing transcription and replication. The drug binds to the ribosome and blocks protein synthesis in bacteria. In addition, 3-hydroxypicolinonitrile-2-carbonitrile is also a formamide catalyst, which can be used in the Baylis-Hillman reaction to produce glycinol from chlorobenzene and chirality. This drug has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects in mice with lung cancer due to its ability to induce apoptosis.
