2-Hydroxybenzothiazole is a receptor ligand that binds to the p-hydroxybenzoic acid receptor. It has been shown to have beneficial effects in a number of studies, including the reduction of cytosolic Ca2+ and an increase in rotarod performance. 2-Hydroxybenzothiazole also has an inhibitory effect on the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) enzyme activity and matrix effect in vitro. In addition, 2-hydroxybenzothiazole has been shown to be toxic for human serum cells, with a high binding affinity for kappa opioid receptors.
