It is also used to treat peroxide-induced pancreatitis, where it has been shown to have a protective effect on the pancreas and reduce lysis of pancreatic cells. L-5-Hydroxytryptophan dihydrate has been shown to increase the matrix effect in the pancreas and protect against nonpancreatic diseases that cause oedema. This drug has been shown to be reversibly catalase and molybdate positive in clinical chemistry tests.
