(E)-4-Hydroxyhexenal is a reactive compound that has been shown to bind to the nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) and inhibit its binding activity. (E)-4-Hydroxyhexenal is also able to induce oxidative injury in cells and tissues, but the precise mechanism of this effect is unknown.
