1-Hexyl-3-methylimidazolium iodide is a photocatalyst that is activated by light. It decomposes hydrogen sulfate to produce sulfur dioxide and water, which are products of the reaction. This compound has been shown to be an efficient and selective catalyst for the decomposition of hydrogen sulfate in aqueous solutions. The mechanism of inhibition appears to be due to the adsorption of the reactant on the surface of the catalyst. The Langmuir adsorption isotherm and the covid-19 pandemic model system have been used to study this compound's efficiency and selectivity.
