The fluorescence of 2-hydroxyfluorene can be detected with a fluorescence detector. The sample preparation is usually performed by adding the compound to a solution of ammonium hydroxide and heated for about 10 minutes. The fluorescence spectrometry is measured with a UV/VIS double beam spectrophotometer. Multivariate logistic regression and logistic regression are used to determine the concentration of 2-hydoxyfluorene in urine samples, which can be determined from its molecular weight.
2-Hydroxyfluorene has been shown to have an effect on oxidative DNA damage, but not on matrix effect or electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. It has also been shown to inhibit polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and RNA synthesis.
