- 4-[[3-(Hydroxymethyl)phenyl]amino]-N-[[(1-methylethyl)amino]carbonyl]-3-pyridinesulfonamide
Hydroxy torsemide is a reactive compound that is used to treat high blood pressure. It has been shown to have a potential use in the treatment of human liver cancer and alpha-synuclein associated Parkinson's disease. Hydroxy torsemide is converted by phototransformation into an amide form when exposed to light, which can react with sulfonic acids in wastewater treatment systems to produce toxic compounds known as sulfonamides. Exposure to hydroxy torsemide can also lead to excitotoxicity and glutamate-induced neurotoxicity, which may be linked with Alzheimer's disease.
