The transformation of 4-hydroxy-7-methoxy-6-(2,2,2-trichloroethyl)azaindole into 4,7-dimethoxyazaindole can be achieved through hydrolysis with sodium hydroxide in methanol. Crystallography studies have shown that this compound has selective hydrolytic activity towards the methoxy group at C4 and C5 positions on azaindoles.
