• Descrição: The synthesis of 3-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzonitrile (3HMB) is achieved by the reaction of bromoethane, chloride and methylating agents in hydrochloric acid. This process yields a mixture of products that are separated by fractional distillation. The reaction yield of 3HMB is dependent on the amount of epidermal growth factor (EGF), which can be increased by adding morpholine to the reaction mixture. 3HMB is also a growth factor that has been shown to stimulate cell proliferation and differentiation in vitro. It binds to the epidermal growth factor receptor and stimulates EGF-dependent signal transduction pathways, leading to activation of protein kinase C and mitogen-activated protein kinase.
