Descrição:3-Hydroxybutyric acid is a fatty acid that is the product of the oxidation of butyric acid. It has been shown to have biological functions such as inhibition of glucose uptake and activation of transport properties in recombinant cells. 3-Hydroxybutyric acid also has a role in regulation of intracellular pH, which can be measured by monitoring changes in the levels of hydrochloric acid or sodium salts in urine samples. The biological function of 3-hydroxybutyric acid may be related to its ability to inhibit the growth of bacteria, such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa. This compound has been successfully used as a model protein for cytosolic proteins.
