4-Hydroxy-6-(trifluoromethyl)pyrimidine is a pyrimidine derivative that is analysed in urine samples to determine the presence of cyanoamides. This compound is used as a reagent for alkalizing urine samples and it reacts with chloride ions to produce cyanogen chloride. 4-Hydroxy-6-(trifluoromethyl)pyrimidine can be used as an analytical method for determining the presence of cyanamide in organic solvents. Hydrogen chloride gas reacts with 4-hydroxy-6-(trifluoromethyl)pyrimidine, producing hydrochloric acid, which in turn reacts with cyanamide to form an insoluble salt. This salt can be detected by adding silver nitrate and heating the mixture.
