3-Hexylpyridine is a hydrophobic molecule that can be found in phosphatidylcholine and other biomolecules. 3-Hexylpyridine has been shown to have transport properties, which are related to the hydrophobicity of the molecule. It is present in animals and has been shown to be important for transporting substances across cell membranes and into cells. 3-Hexylpyridine is also an optical isomer, which allows it to be used as a fluorescent probe for microscopy. 3-Hexylpyridine can form liposomes or mesomorphic phases when mixed with water or organic solvents, respectively. The molecular mechanism of this compound is still not well understood.
