DL-Homo-b-valine is an amino acid that is a constituent of protein S6. It has been shown to have antibacterial activity against Gram-negative bacteria, such as Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, but not against Gram-positive bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus. DL-Homo-b-valine has also been shown to have antioxidant properties. This amino acid is mainly found in the serum of humans and animals, where it binds to albumin. DL-Homo-b-valine can be synthesized by microbial fermentation of sugars or glucose.
