3-Hydroxypropanesulfonic acid (~80% in water) is a white solid that is soluble in methanol and dimethyl formamide. It has a molecular weight of 169.2 g/mol and a chemical formula of CH3COOHHSO3. This compound can be used as a polymerization agent for vinyl chloride, as well as an intermediate for the synthesis of p-hydroxybenzoic acid, which is used in the production of detergents. 3-Hydroxypropanesulfonic acid (~80% in water) also has been shown to enhance photocurrent generation from organic semiconductors and to be an effective solvent for fatty acids.
