4-Hexanoylbiphenyl is a biphenyl with six carbons, which are all in the form of hexanoic acid. The structure of 4-hexanoylbiphenyl is characterized by the two phenyl rings, one of which is substituted with a carboxylic acid group. The oxygenated functionalities of 4-hexanoylbiphenyl are responsible for its ability to react with zeolites and produce alkylation products. 4-Hexanoylbiphenyl has been shown to catalyze the elimination of trimethylacetic acid from carboxylic acids and the carboxylic acids themselves are able to catalyze reactions involving acidic functionalities.
