This compound is one of the most efficient optical sensors for the detection of hydrogen bonding and can be used in the measurement of intermolecular hydrogen bonding. The compound also has good transport properties, chemical stability, and growth factor binding constants. It has been shown to have anti-cancer activity when combined with epidermal growth factor. 2,3,6,7,10,11-Hexahydroxytriphenylene hydrate has also been synthesized on a solid phase using carbonyl oxygens as starting materials.
