6-Hydroxyflavone-beta-D-glucoside is a lead compound that inhibits the expression of MMP-9 and prevents the degradation of extracellular matrix proteins. This compound has inhibitory activity against both transcription and translation of MMP-9, which is an important regulator of inflammation. The inhibitory effects on gene expression are achieved by inhibiting the transcription polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and preventing the binding of the connective polypeptide to the polymerase chain reaction. 6-Hydroxyflavone-beta-D-glucoside also has structural properties that make it a competitive inhibitor for other flavonoids, such as spiraeoside, which have similar structural properties.
