• Descrição: Hexyl 4-hydroxybenzoate is a preservative that is added to food, drugs, cosmetics and other products. It prevents bacterial growth by inhibiting bacterial enzymes, such as p-hydroxybenzoic acid hydrolase. Hexyl 4-hydroxybenzoate has been shown to reduce the symptoms of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in rats by reducing the number of activated immune cells in the gut. It also inhibits the transcriptional regulation of proinflammatory cytokines and chemokines through its ability to inhibit protein synthesis. This compound has been shown to be an inhibitor of p-glycoprotein (p-gp), which is a membrane transporter protein that pumps various molecules out of cells. The inhibition of this pump may contribute to the accumulation of drug molecules inside cells and cause drug resistance.
