- 1,1'-(1,1,1,3,3,3-Hexafluoropropane-2,2-diyl)dibenzene
Hexafluoro-2,2-diphenylpropane is a volatile liquid that has an affinity for metals. It undergoes reduction reactions and isomerizes to hexafluoro-1,1-diphenylpropane at elevated temperatures. Hexafluoro-2,2-diphenylpropane has been shown to reduce the formation of β-amino acids and cyclic sulfides in acid media. It is also used as an electrophilic agent in organic synthesis. Hexafluoro-2,2-diphenylpropane can be used with diode or voltammetry methods to identify sulfides by their characteristic spectral signatures. The compound has two isomers: 1,1-, 2,2-, and 3,3-.
