Descrição:22-Hydroxy-25-fluorocholesterol is a cholesterol acyltransferase inhibitor, which prevents the synthesis of cholesterol in the body. It is also used as a sequestering agent, preventing cholesterol from being absorbed into the body. This drug has been shown to decrease high cholesterol levels and oxysterols in patients with coronary artery disease. 22-Hydoxy-25-fluorocholesterol binds to cellular membranes and blocks the transport of bile acids and acid, thereby inhibiting cholesterol synthesis. It also inhibits inflammation by blocking inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α and IL-1β. This drug may also be useful for treating inflammatory diseases such as asthma and rheumatoid arthritis due to its inhibition of leukotriene synthesis.
