• Descrição: Isopropylideneglycerol is a chemical compound that has the formula (R)-(-)-1,2-O-isopropylideneglycerol. It is a colorless oil with a sweet taste and is soluble in water. Isopropylideneglycerol serves as an intermediate in the biosynthesis of glycerolipids, such as phosphoglycerides, glycerophosphoglycerides, and sphingomyelins. It also exhibits antioxidant activity and can protect cells from lipid peroxidation induced by reactive oxygen species. Isopropylideneglycerol has been shown to exhibit antitumour activity against ovarian cancer cells. This may be due to its ability to inhibit the activity of lipolytic enzymes in these cells.
