3-Isopropylisoxazole-5-carboxylic acid (3IPA) is an inhibitor of voltage-gated calcium channels. It has been shown to be effective in the treatment of neuropathic pain by reducing the excitability of neurons. 3IPA exhibits its analgesic properties through its binding to the t-type calcium channel, which is responsible for regulating the flow of calcium ions into cells. 3IPA also reduces neuronal excitability by inhibiting voltage-gated potassium channels and glutamate release. 3IPA may be a potential therapeutic agent for neuropathic pain, as it provides a novel approach to treating this type of pain.
