- Tetrahydrofuran-2-ylmethyl isothiocyanate
2-(Isothiocyanatomethyl)tetrahydrofuran is a nitro compound that has been shown to inhibit the growth of neutrophils and other white blood cells. It inhibits the production of inflammatory compounds such as leukotrienes, prostaglandins, and lipoxygenase products by inhibiting cyclooxygenase-1 and 2 enzymes. 2-(Isothiocyanatomethyl)tetrahydrofuran also inhibits the growth of cancer cells through its interactions with CB1 receptors, which are located on the surface of cancer cells. This interaction prevents the activation of protein kinase C and phospholipase A2, which leads to decreased levels of arachidonic acid in cancer cells. This results in reduced cell proliferation and increased apoptosis (cell death).
