1H-Indol-1-ylacetic acid (IAA) is a compound that has the ability to inhibit the activity of various enzymes, including cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase. IAA also has antioxidant properties, which may be due to its ability to scavenge reactive oxygen species. IAA is an important precursor for several biologically active compounds in humans, including prostaglandin E2 and heme. It is also used as an antipyretic drug, which decreases body temperature by dilating blood vessels in the skin and other tissues. IAA can interact with other drugs such as aspirin or acetaminophen, though this interaction is not well understood. 1H-Indol-1-ylacetic acid binds to proteins such as pai-1 and CRTH2 on red blood cells, leading to changes in their function.
