(1-Isocyanoethyl)benzene is a synthetic molecule that has been used to prepare peptidomimetics, which are structurally related to peptides but have no amino acid residues. These molecules can be used as ligands in coordination chemistry and as chiral auxiliaries in organic synthesis. (1-Isocyanoethyl)benzene has shown stereoselective reactions with acid molecules and aldehydes and is capable of forming macrocycles. The reaction system for the formation of this compound involves a metallocene catalyst and copolymerization with vinyl groups. This molecule has also been used for molecular modelling studies.
