Inhoffen lythgoe diol is a synthetic analogue of vitamin D3. It has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties in cell cultures. The compound binds to the vitamin D receptor (VDR), which is found in the nucleus of various cells, and activates it. This activation leads to an increase in the expression of VDR-regulated genes, such as those that encode proteins that regulate cell growth or differentiation. These effects are thought to be due to the functional groups present on the Inhoffen lythgoe diol molecule, including a hydroxyl group, an alkynyl group, and a hydroxy group.
