Indole-2-carboxylic acid ethyl ester inhibits the binding of collagen to cells, which may be due to its ability to bind to β-carboline alkaloids on collagen. The binding of indole-2-carboxylic acid ethyl ester with these alkaloids prevents them from binding to collagen, thereby preventing the formation of new collagen fibers. This drug also inhibits aldehyde production, which is important for DNA synthesis in cancer cells.
