It has the ability to bind to the surface of bacteria and inhibit their growth by forming a complex with water vapor. Isonicotinic acid also inhibits the growth of subcutaneous tumors in mice and is believed to have anti-inflammatory properties. Isonicotinic acid may be a non-toxic agent for the treatment of bacterial infections because it does not react with human serum or cause hemolysis.
