1-Iodo-4-(trifluoromethoxy)benzene is a carbonyl compound that is an example of a hypervalent molecule. 1-Iodo-4-(trifluoromethoxy)benzene is reactive due to the presence of two reactive groups: the carbonyl and the trifluoromethoxy group. The carbonyl group is able to react with electrophiles and nucleophiles, while the trifluoromethoxy group can react with halides and iodides. 1-Iodo-4-(trifluoromethoxy)benzene has been used in biomolecular reactions, such as dehydrogenative coupling reactions or cross coupling reactions.
1-Iodo-4-(trifluoromethoxy)benzene is also used in catalysis to oxidize alkenes or alkynes, forming alcohols or ketones respectively.
