Isopropyldiphenylphosphine is a nitrogenous compound that contains a phosphoryl group. It has been used as an intermediate in the production of other chemicals, such as herbicides and pesticides. Isopropyldiphenylphosphine has been shown to react with chlorine to form chlorinated derivatives and is also an effective catalyst for reactions involving hydrocarbon molecules. This reaction occurs by the addition of a hydrogen atom from the hydroxyl group on the phosphorus atom to the carbon-halogen bond. The compound can also be used in structural analysis, as it can be crystallized into a single crystal suitable for x-ray diffraction studies. Isopropyldiphenylphosphine can also act as an antioxidant for certain functional groups, such as carbonyl groups.
