2-Isopropoxy-3-methylpyrazine is a synthetic pheromone that has been shown to be an attractant for the fire ant Solenopsis invicta. It is also a sex pheromone for the German cockroach, Blatella germanica. 2-Isopropoxy-3-methylpyrazine is chemically similar to pyrazine and has been shown to be dose dependent. The effects of 2-isopropoxy-3-methylpyrazine on behavior in ants vary depending on the bioassay used. In electroantennogram experiments, it was found that 2-isopropoxy-3-methylpyrazine does not affect behavioral response but instead stimulates electrophysiological activity. In bioassays where it was tested as an attractant, 2-isopropoxy-3-methylpyrazine elicits dose dependent behavioral responses such as antennal movement, body swaying
