L-Kynurenine is an intermediate in the kynurenine pathway, which is a metabolic pathway that produces nicotinic acetylcholine. It is also involved in the production of serotonin and melatonin. L-Kynurenine has been shown to stimulate the release of interferon alpha from human fibroblasts and to inhibit the production of nitric oxide from macrophages. It has also been shown to be a potential biomarker for Parkinson's disease. L-Kynurenine can be used as a reaction solution for polymerase chain reaction analysis or transcriptional regulation studies, and can be used as a matrix effect control in chemical biology experiments.
