Kajiichigoside F1 is a triterpenoid saponin isolated from the root of K. japonicus. It has been shown to have a potent inhibitory activity on protease and to lower blood pressure in mice. The chemical structures of this compound are similar to that of other systolic pressure-lowering agents such as astragaloside IV, which has been demonstrated to have an inhibitory effect on inflammatory diseases. In addition, Kajiichigoside F1 exhibits regulatory effects on inflammatory responses by inhibiting the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines via the downregulation of NF-κB/p65 signaling pathways. This extract also exhibits a diastolic pressure-lowering effect in mice, which may be due to its inhibition of angiotensin II type 1 receptors.
