Lead carbonate is a chemical compound with the chemical formula PbCO3. It is a white solid that can be prepared by the reaction of lead oxide and sodium carbonate. Lead carbonate is used as a nutrient for cultures, such as in microbiology. This material has been shown to inhibit locomotor activity and biochemical properties in rats, but not in mice. Lead carbonate also emits light when irradiated with infrared light or X-rays, which may be due to its redox potential. The FT-IR spectrum of this compound contains peaks at 1681 cm−1 (C=O), 1071 cm−1 (C=C), and 788 cm−1 (C=N).
