Linalyl formate is a monoterpene alcohol that is used as a film-forming polymer, which is also known as a detergent additive. It has been shown to have a phase transition temperature of about 50°C and can be found in the structural formula of cellulose derivatives. When combined with other ingredients, such as glycol ethers, fatty acids, and isopropyl palmitate, it forms an oxygenated film on the surface of a fabric. Linalyl formate has been shown to have anti-bacterial properties against Staphylococcus strains and can be used for cleaning surfaces contaminated with bacteria. The chemical reactions between linalyl formate and other ingredients are unknown at this time.
