Leucine-enkephalin is a type of protein that has neurotrophic effects and is produced by the kidney bean. It is a member of the opioid peptide family, which is a class of molecules that are important in modulating several biological processes. Leucine-enkephalin has been shown to have neuroprotective properties, which may be due to its ability to inhibit neuronal death. This protein also stimulates uptake of glucose into cells and immunosuppressant effects. Leucine-enkephalin has been shown to inhibit cell growth in culture and has neurotrophic effects in wild-type mice.
