Lithium acetylide is a synthetic compound that has receptor activity. It is used as an active substance in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and other chemical products. Lithium acetylide can inhibit fatty acid synthesis by inhibiting the enzyme acyl-CoA synthase, which catalyzes the first step in fatty acid production. This compound also inhibits fatty alcohol synthesis by inhibiting enoyl-CoA hydratase, which catalyzes the second step in this process. Lithium acetylide has been shown to have cardiac effects and inhibits amide biosynthesis.
