Lithium tetrafluoroaluminate is a compound that has the chemical formula LiAlF4. It is made by reacting aluminium with hydrogen fluoride and lithium fluoride in the presence of an organic solvent, such as toluene or xylene. Lithium tetrafluoroaluminate is used as a catalyst in organic reactions because it can be easily processed, provides high yields and has low toxicity. It also reacts with olefinic compounds to produce fluorinated products. The reactivity of lithium tetrafluoroaluminate depends on the reaction conditions, such as temperature and pressure.
