- Acetic acid, 2,2-difluoro-, lithium salt (1:1)
- Lithium difluoroacetate
Lithium difluoroacetate is a compound that is used to inhibit bacterial beta-lactamase enzymes. It has been shown to inhibit the activity of beta-lactamases produced by organisms such as Enterobacter aerogenes, Citrobacter freundii, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Lithium difluoroacetate also inhibits anion exchange, which is required for bacterial cell wall synthesis. The salts of lithium difluoroacetate have been reported to be more effective than lithium metal in inhibiting beta-lactamase enzymes. Lithium difluoroacetate has been found to be most effective at low concentrations (less than 1 M), but can be used at higher concentrations when combined with an organic solvent such as ethanol or THF. Lithium difluoroacetate inhibits beta-lactamase enzymes by forming ion pairs with the enzyme's active site, thereby preventing the enzyme from binding
